A passionate TEDtalk About our food system

Farmer Joe Salatin speaks with so much feeling that he is literally fumbling over his words at times
We need more people speaking with passion, and spreading awareness about these isssues.

Water is Life

                                Water photo: water 100_2759.jpg

Water is the basis of what makes life possible.

Roughly 70% of the Planet is cover with water.
Interestingly enough roughly the same percentage of water comprises ses the human body.

Water is the lubrication that allows life to thrive on all levels.
None of the chemical reactions that happen in our bodies are possible without water.
No wonder we feel so crummy when we are  dehydrated. Its like running a car without oil.

Water is the highest conductor of Electricity; the next highest conductor is Gold.
Electric impulses control most of our bodily functions. The electricity created by the human heart can be detected with a Cardiogram from up to 12 feet away.

The minerals carried in water allow this electricity to flow thru our bodies, and for us to function at our highest level.

Lets take a break from our Anatomy lesson,  and talk a bit about Soil Biology.

All of the same things that are needed for our bodies to function at their highest level are also needed for the health our soil.

Everyone knows plants need water, but do you know why?
Soil is comprised of billions of microrganisms, and they all need nourishment.
The presence of water allows these organisms to have the right opportunities to thrive.
The exchange of enzymes between plants and Microbes, and the relationship between minerals, and beneficial fungus are only possible with water.

Not all water is Created Equal!

Lets come back to the human body; more specifically the stomach.
Just like the soil our stomachs are full of billions of microrganisms and enzymes that help us to process and break down our food.

The Right kind of water can make these processes work seemlessly. We will feel healthy and energized, and our gardens will be thriving.

The Wrong kind of water will leave us feeling groggy, and our gardens looking pretty sad.

Water in the wild is Living.
It is full of billions of microrganisms that make life thrive in the soil, and in our bodies.

Water from the Store and, out of the tap is Dead.
It has been sterilized to kill any bad bacteria, but it kills all the good stuff too.
The use of chlorine is water is all to common. Chlorine is designed to kill.
It kills the biology in our stomachs, and we cant process our food properly, and it kills the biology in our soil that allows our plants to grow into healthful food.

Solutions?

The best option is to find a fresh water source near you for your drinking water.

Next best option is to get a good water filter that removes chlorine.

We've got Love for the Earthworm!

Earthworms are a gardeners best friend!
Not only do they loosen the soil and allow the flow of oxygen, but their castings(poo) are pure gold for the garden. Wormcasting are a readily available source of nutrients for your plants. Meaning that your plants can benefit from them right away.
Plus they have balanced NPK making them a perfect plant food.

The presence of earthworms are key to the long term success of your garden, and for the health of your soil biology.
The excretions from the worms in combination with the enzymes exuded from plant roots create the ideal situation for thriving soil microbes.

Take care of your soil
The soil with take care of your plants
Your plants with take care of you

The Compost Guru

This video marks a turning point in my life.

I had grown up gardening, but, by the time I was in in high school I had completely lost touch..
My priorities consisted of riding my bike, and creating artwork; both of which are still a constant in my life, but I was disconnected from the Earth.
Even more so, I disconnected with the food I put my body.

As silly as this video may seem, it was a catalyst that changed the course of my life.
The vary same day that I watched this video with my best friend we started a compost pile.

Both of us have had our hands in the dirt ever since.

This video was a seed that has grown into a life that I never knew was possible.

I hope that it may inspire some of you as much as it has me.
